A situation arose in
Paragould, Arkansas a few years back, when a property owner called in a
complaint about a tenant who was evicted from her property, her
husband was put in jail, and she left 2 Rottweilers (male and
female) and 4 Chinese Shar-Pei's (3 males, 1 female). The
tenant had been evicted months ago and would not get the
furniture or the animals out. Two of the Pei's were left
in the house with feces everywhere, and two were outside in a
dog pen with one dog house. The Rotties were chained up to
metal posts with one dog house split in half for shelter.
Collars were hooked with a padlock and so worn, shelter staff
could not get them off and had to take the 6 ft chains as they
could not remove the collars! The plastic dog house was
split in half and lay on the ground in the mud affording
the dogs no comfort or way to stay dry. There was food but
no water, so shelter staff confiscated all the animals at the
property due to the conditions. Honey was found to be around 7 years old, was being kept
outside, and had been bred repeatedly.
This is the beginning of Honey Pie’s story.
Honey Pie was treated for heart worm,
mange, entropian surgery performed, vaccinated and
spayed. After a
period of about three weeks she arrived by plane in Seattle,
Washington where TnT Sharpei Rescue picked her up for
the last leg of her journey to Mission, BC, Canada.
When she first arrived at TnT Rescue, she would
stand and stare at the walls, totally defeated. Terry, her foster mother, treated her with kindly
indifference while playing and spending time with the two other
dogs in the home. Gradually,
Honey Pie started coming out of her shell, and showing how
really sweet natured she is.
After about a week, Honey was right at home on the king
size waterbed with the rest of the pack.
Roughly two weeks after arriving in her foster home, one
night Terry was laying on her back in bed.
Honey Pie laid down beside her and put her little soft
neck on top of Terry’s, and went to sleep,
little baby breaths puffy softly in and out.
That’s all she wrote folks, little Honey Pie
found her new
mother and she will be living in Mission with TnT folks who
can’t bear to part with her!
Honey has been with us now for a few years, and a
gentler, sweeter little dog I’ve never seen.
We would like to thank all the folks that
contributed this sweetheart’s rescue, those being:
Dr. John Huff who did the medical work for next to
nothing, the Homeward Bound folks, RASP, PAWS, and Laura Wood,
Carol Lint who gave us the courage to forge ahead with this
“senior”, and last but not least, Wendy Cook who got us
involved in this rescue! Thank
you for helping bring our Honey Pie to us.
