Dakota, two of her
littermates and their mother were dropped off at a Dallas area
shelter because the owner no longer wanted them. The mother,
Daisy, is a full breed Shar-Pei, but the puppies are definitely
Shar-Pei mix. Daisy was still nursing her 6-week old puppies when
a volunteer with NASPR picked them up at the shelter less than 12
hours of hearing that they were there. All of them were taken to
the vet the following day and the puppies appeared to be in good
health. Daisy took great care of them considering she had
advanced heartworms. Thanks to the large network of Shar-Pei
Rescue volunteers and breeders, Dakota found her forever home in
British Columbia, Canada. The real success was transporting her
to her new home. Dakota was driven to Houston for the Shar-Pei
Nationals where she was then transported for the long haul to
Seattle by charitable breeders. Once she arrived in Seattle she
was transported to Sumas where she would meet another volunteer
with TNT Rescue. Dakota was soon on her way to Kamloops where her
new family would greet her and take her to her forever home.
Dakota’s littermates have found their forever homes too, and Daisy
is well on her way to recovery. We could not have done this
without all the hard work of the volunteers and breeders dedicated
to our wonderful breed. Special thanks to Elli K. for the
home visit!
