On August 25th, 2010, Peaches decided it was time to go.  She died peacefully in her sleep and just seemed to stop breathing.  Peaches was a just over 14 year old Sharpei.  She had lived with my family for five years.  This lovely girl had been dumped at the Calgary Humane Society.  The shelter contacted TnT and I agreed to foster her.  After two days we decided she should live with us forever.  She lived happily with us and was a great dog to take to any event for the Small Animal Rescue or TnT.  She was fabulous with all people and children.  She could be a bit feisty with other dogs, but that was just her way of introducing herself.  Even though she was nine when she came to us, she loved to go for long walks with her canine brother Reggie.  During her last two years she would walk with her Basset sister Jenny.  Jenny died in May and shortly after Peaches began to show signs she may not be with us much longer.

Peaches did have a few quirks.  She used to tip her water dish when we were out.  I tried a tip resistant dish once, and she ended up pushing it against a wall and digging up the dry wall in her frustration.  Eventually she got over this.  She did find water very interesting though!  Two years ago we came home to a flooded house.  The water in our complex had been shut off for the day and when it came back on the pressure caused a connection in the bathroom to break.  Peaches must have raced in to try to help and ended up locking herself in the bathroom.  That’s what we told ourselves.  We were never sure if she caused the flood or tried to stop it!

Peaches loved to sit with me.  She was always happy to hang out wherever I was.  She also loved to lie all over the other dogs.  I am a teacher and she came to my class many times to hang out and keep an eye on the students.   She has left a big hole in our hearts, but we will always remember the delightful and loving girl that she was.  I wouldn’t have missed out on knowing this great dog for anything!  She was the best.  I like to picture her running with Jenny and trying to boss around all the dogs at The Bridge.

Love from her family, Joanna, Mike, Jackson and Reggie the Big Black Dog
